The Games We Play
By: Abel Haddish
A full length, new-work play that features the characters Hanna and Cooper. First friends, then lovers, then partners, the couple navigates the ups and downs of life together while playing games, which in the end, are more than just games.
When directing this play, I wanted to explore the idea of love in the most authentic light. Love isn’t easy, but what part of life is? One moment you’re shouting from the rooftops about all the things you’d never do and then out of nowhere one person can just come along and change everything. It’s scary, but rewarding. It’s rewarding, but makes you want to pull your hair out. Love be wildin! And I believe this play offered me the opportunity to investigate the silliness that love is. Love might not be the end all be all, and sometimes I really don’t think it should be, but through my lens as a director I wanted to challenge my audience to think about the concept of leading through life with an open heart. We can do and say some wacky stuff, come on, we’re human. But you can’t know what you’re missing until you try it.

A one-act new-work play that shares the story of two sisters, Diana and Molly, embarking on a new journey and the mixed emotions that come with that.
When directing this play I wanted to capture the essence of dependence and what it means to be in a codependent relationship. Though not always rooted in toxicity, the idea of being a caregiver versus the idea of being the person that is always taken care of creates a toll and source of guilt for both parties. I believe this play offered me the opportunity to explore that idea in the softest light.
How’s Diana like as a director?
